ZIM VIM Team Introduces e-reader

Leaders at the Murewa Primary School met with Charlie Moore to see the WorldReader kindle for the first time last month while he was working on mission projects with Volunteers in Mission from the Baltimore-Washington Conference.
Headmaster Cresencia Rarayi  (pictured across from Charlie) along with deputy head Maximillion Chitemerere and IT Director for the school Eric Kundayi Paradza were introduced to the possibility of a digital library.

This primary school of 1500 students does not have the resources to purchase books, especially books that are engaging for their level of reading and subjects of interest.  A single WorldReader kindle will hold 200 books titles donated by the world’s top trade and textbook publishers including  African authors. For a student to be able to read books in both their native language, Shona, and their second language English would require a library to have access to more books than the physical space at the school could afford. With an e-reader program, a student can hold the entire library in the palm of her hand.

After this conversation in February 2015,  it was decided that the Primary School at Murewa Mission would begin small - setting a goal of 50 e-readers for students to check out. Thanks to a partnership with WorldReader, the school will also receive technical and pedagogical training for their local project manager, the teachers and e-reader repair training for the IT department at the school. The cost for this is approximately $7,000.
